GRAY, Ga. — All Jones County schools are closed Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, because of a water disruption in the City of Gray, where a boil-water advisory is expected to remain in effect until at least Tuesday.
The Gray Fire Department said Sunday night that city crews were still working to identify the source of the water-system issue. Residents throughout Gray have been experiencing low water pressure or complete outages.
Officials say residents should boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or other consumption until the advisory is officially lifted. Tuesday is not a confirmed end date. Residents are also asked to conserve water and limit nonessential use.
The Jones County Water Department clarified that the City of Gray and Jones County operate separate water systems; the county system was not experiencing an outage.
Some local businesses, including Dairy Queen and Slim Chickens, reported they would not be able to open Monday because of the advisory.
