COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Transportation and Columbus Consolidated Government advise that Pierce Chapel Road from U.S. 27 / SR 1 (Martha Berry Highway) to Blackmon Road closes starting Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, for about two weeks, weather permitting.
Crews will mill and lower the roadway surface on this section of Pierce Chapel Road to bring it into alignment with the ongoing U.S. 27 / SR 1 widening project. The project corridor runs from Turnberry Lane in Muscogee County to SR 315 in Harris County.
Posted detour: Dekalb Drive, Hancock Road, and Blackmon Road. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution near the work zone. Check 511GA.org or dial 511 for updates.
